Why are narwhals killed?

Narwhals are killed for their body parts to supply foodand shelter, and for their tusks to provide a source of income. Inuit hunters of the Canadian Arctic kill narwhals to meet Inuit needs for having enough food to eat and for having materials to build their shelters from the cold. Hunters of fortune kill narwhals to earn easy income by selling narwhal tusks to private collectors.
