They aren't "judgemental". They strongly believe in their religion and they don't understand why their friend,or whoever, chose the religion they are.
I would assume the main reason why people are so judgmental about religions is due to a stereo type of haughtiness that is held by many religious people. In addition, when it comes around to "saving ones soul" and some one assumes that as their life goal, people who do not share that belief/ necessity can be easily annoyed by the religious folk. Thus, the basic mission to spread religion, and to convert is not desired by most people that do not share religion so it is judged by others. Hope that helps ~S
