Young people start smoking for a couple reasons.

1) parents smoke

2) friends smoke

3) tobacco companies target them

Once hooked, people smoke because they are addicted to the nicotine which calms them down. Without the nicotine, they go through withdrawals and have a strong urge to smoke

I am 50 years old. When I started smoking, noone knew cigarettes were bad for you. Everyone loved them.

I have smoked for years and I am finding it very hard to quit.

I would suggest, with all the great information on cigarettes out there now, please do not begin to smoke. It is an addiction that is is nearly impossible to break.

I wish I had never had the bad information and had the ability to never touch one. I will live with COPD and maybe worse for the rest of my life.

When I started smoking, it was sexy. Now it is debilitating.
