As a raccoon becomes an adolescent, hormones start to be released in the animal's blood stream which trigger instinctive behaviors. This includes territorial instincts, breeding, etc. all of which can lead to periodic aggressive behavior among raccoons as well as with humans. The sweet, cuddly little baby can suddenly turn into a snarling, nasty tempered young adult. This is why raccoons are not recommended as pets.
