Haw/Cape Fear, Dan/Roanoke, Elk, Green, Eno/Neuse, New, Yadkin/Pee Dee, Catawba/Cooper. The Pee Dee and Cooper rivers are in South Carolina, but the headwaters of both systems with large drainage basins are in North Carolina. The Dan/Roanoke rivers meander through NC and VA. As does the New River, which then turns north, and enters West Virginia before reaching the Ohio River.
