In my opinion, the reason popular kids seem to be treated better is that they know more people. If you hang out with popular people eventually you will be popular too. Popular people don't try to meet new people, they associate amongst each other. I believe that the popular kids are treated better by other students and members of the staff. Popular kids tend to be those who do well in school, are involved in athletics, and are active in the community. While their favor seems unjust, they give staff no reason to dislike them.
