common names cause confusion they dont have scientfic basis. as there are number of common names for a single specie. or one name can be reffered to different specie. scientific names are known and accepted through out the world. they give us scientific basis and eleminate the confusion
The scientific names allows all scientists to be able to identify the specific animal. For instance, the mountain lion may also be called by puma, cougar, panther, etc. By calling it Felis concolor, which is its scientific name, scientists are easily able to identify what it is, regardless of its local name.
Scientific names are important as they help scietists avoid confusion. Different species maybe called by the same name in different places. For example the American flounder and the British flounder are different species with the same common name.
Scientifically speaking, biological classification serves two main purposes: 1) a basis for generalization in comparative studies and, 2) an information storage system. Linnaean binomial nomenclature is thus merely an expression of current ideas about how this or that organism can be grouped with others, a kind of short-hand that allows taxonomists to discuss a 'work in progress'. The species is the lowest ranking taxon and the only 'natural' one (for the moment, I will sidestep the complicating fact that even experts often do not agree on what, exactly, a species is); all larger taxa are arbitrary and thus subject to change based on new information and how experts interpret their meaning. Ideally, the taxonomic ranking of a given species reflects its phylogenetic interrelationships with other organisms. But this is difficult to do in practice.
Common names given to animals and plants are often different depending on where you are in the country. Also, several common names can sometimes be used. A scientific name is officially accepted by the scientific world, and is the same name everywhere.
Animals do not name themselves, people do that..
You could be thinking of "Binomial Nomenclature", the classification system used for plants and animals that gives them the scientific two-names - Carcharodon charcharias (The Great White Shark), Homo sapiens (People) etc.
Lions are animals and do not have botanical (plant) names. Their scientific name is Panthera leo.
That IS the scientific name.
all herbivores like cows, goats, sheep, elephants depend on plants for their food. if we consider a food pyramid, then we can infer that even a decomposer is indirectly dependant on the primary producers- plants
On google just look up scientific names for plants and animals it works just try it.
For animals: organism
The scientific name for cream cheese is "philadelphia," named after the city where it was first produced in the 19th century.
Animals and plants (living things) have scientific names. A cell phone is not an animal or a plant
Good question, I was actually trying to find out last week. Scientist usually give names to plants and animals. It's because of how the plant or animal reacted in it's enviroment.
Some animals known by their Latin names include the lion (Panthera leo), domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris), and the house cat (Felis catus). These Latin names are used in scientific classification.
it can be called reincarnation, but there are many names for animals.
Latin is used for classification of animals and plants and micro organismsex: elletaria cardamomum family zingeberaceaeelletaria is the genus namecardamomum is the species name
Scientific names help to accurately identify and classify different species of animals, avoiding confusion caused by common names that may vary by region or language. They also provide a universal language for scientists to communicate and study animals across different cultures and languages.
hmmm.. I have one... Dillenia philippinensis.. A flowering plant from the Philippines.
They knew some of the plants and animals names
