Simple machines are used to lesson the amount of effort put into a task.
People use simple machines because when something heavy that you have to carry is very hard to lift up, you can use a simple machine. There are 6 simple machines. The lever, the wheel and axle, the pulley, the inclined plane, the wedge, and the screw. All these are the 6 simple machines. Each of these simple machines are used for different reasons and situations. Like a lever for example, a lever is used to move big and heavy objects. For example, when there is a big rock that is blocking the path of a very small river, you then have to find a big block of rectangular wood (plank). Then you push one end of the block of wood into the ground and push onto the other side sticking out with your hands. Then, when you are pushing the other side that is sticking out, then the rock would rise out of the spot and move out of the way. See how simple that was and how helpful the simple machine was? Well, this is why people use simple machines.
