Why is it bad to have snowstorms?
Snowstorms aren't necessarily bad. Most plants and animals need snow & the water it provides as it melts in the spring & summer to thrive. For humans snowstorms can be an inconvenience or even deadly. Whether they are bad or not for us mostly depends on how prepared we are for the winter season in terms of shelter, food, water & heating.

Washington in the White Mountains of New Hampshire is a modest 6,288 feet if memory serves. But as you hike or drive up, you move above the tree line and enter what is really tundra. There are no trees; just rock and lichen. It can be extremely windy and noticeably cooler than at the base. You can even be completely 'socked in' by cloud cover at the summit, even if it is a mostly sunny day at the base. There is also a wonderful cog railway that takes you to the summit, and the station is not far from the famous Mt Washington Hotel.
