Heat moves through a material by contact between atoms and/or free electrons. The free electrons are effective in metals, not solids like wood or plastic, but still in any solid the atoms pass energy along more effectively than in gases or liquids, because they are much closer together.

This is because the atoms in the solids (when cold) are very firm. Meaning they do not move very much if at all. When the atoms heat, the electrons start to warm up and buzz around the nuclius- the inside of the atom containing the protons and nutrons. When this happens, the stom creates a feild of electrons. When you look at a fan, and try to put a feather behind it by pressing the feather into the spinning wheels, the feather won't go in. If you put a mini fan down without a stand, the fan would go buzzing around the place because the wheels are hitting the ground. Its the same with the atoms, the atoms will go bouncing around, causing the solid to loosen up and turn to a liquid. So basicly, when the stoms heats up they start bouncing around and then it turnds into a liquid.

It comes down to the energy on the molecular form. When the liquid is warm the molecules are more active and thus easier to dissolve the solid. If you were to bring down the temperature of the liquid the solution would be called a supersaturated solution.

There are many reasons why solids retain heat more than liquids. This is because the molecules are packed closer together.

mixtures can be formed by physically putting two or more substances together. Mixtures can be formed between solids and liquids, solids and solids, liquids and liquids, solids and gas, liquids and gas, gas and gas

Why is kinetic energy of liquids more than solids?

The kinetic energy in liquids is greater than that in solids because the molecules in solids are more closely packed together than in liquids such that liquids can freely move about within the containing vessel.
