They are animals. They are not nearly as advanced or have the same capabilities as us. There is nothing wrong with hunting. Even The Bible says God put the animals on the land for us. Plus, hunting is virtually painless in many cases. There's nothing wrong with reaping the benefits of nature. There is a difference between humans and animals.

Usually, people are mean to animals because they lack compassion and empathy, a narcissistic trait. People who are cruel to animals are often verbally or physically abused by family members and direct their anger for this towards animals that cannot defend themselves.

sorry if you're one of those people if you hate animals...I feel bad for you

AnswerMainly people forget that being granted rights means accepting responsibilities, which of course animals cannot do. AnswerInteresting idea that animals can't accept responsibilities. Allowing for the fact that humans are also animals then this assumption is already in the rubbish bin. The kind of responsibilities that humans shoulder are pretty much the same as the majority as the animal world:
  • Growing up learning the morals, habits and what's acceptable within the group;
  • Making certain that each individual has the responsibility to ensure that the group thrives;
  • Bonding with one or a group of their peers to make certain that there are babies that will grow to be valuable members of the group;
  • Nurturing the young and showing emotional responses within the group to birth, life and death.

Strangely, we don't only see these things among humans. We don't only see it among the apes/monkeys; but we now have scientists who have seen/documented these behaviours in what used to be considered 'dumb animals'.

Mother gorillas who carry their dead babies around until the older mothers finally persuade her that there is no hope; chimps in facilities where they've been taught ASL & BSL have agreed to adopt an abandoned baby when their own baby has died.

Elephants will stay with a dying member of the herd, touching them with their trunks, singing their rumbling songs until there's no life left and then they'll leave, very reluctantly.

The whales and dolphins will nurture their young from their first breath to irritating adolescence; they cry out to one another when separated and show that vicarious emotion "love" when eventually reunited.

And now we've realised that even the tiniest creature has this 'responsibility' thing in one way or another whether it's simply making sure that it's offspring will have shelter and a food source for it to survive -- hopefully.

So, how do you classify "responsibility"? Most animals bear greater responsibility for their young than many humans after all you don't get child abuse among them, although dolphins can be pretty murderous with the toddlers.

From the Animal Rights point of view, it is because in all the important ways, animals and humans are the same. They love, they suffer, they mourn. Also, there are many humans who are say mentally handicapped, or a newborn baby who has less awareness than a dog, so why can't the dog be important too?

From the Animal Welfare point of view: The problem with this view is that it is merely that: a view and ultimately, a belief. A belief that stems from the humanizing and anthropomophism of the psychology of animals. These same people who believe that animals have the same emotions as humans do also believe that animals think in the same way. This has been proven to be not the case. Animals live in the moment, never the past nor the future like humans too commonly do.

As such, the view of animals deserving the same rights as humans comes from this psychological perspective, though flawed it is considered by the greater majority and the scientific community.

Does a cheetah have a mind?

Every vertebrate animal has a brain with similar functions to a human. Animals do 'think' but no one can be sure just how animals do their thinking. Most people would say animals cannot form "thoughts". BUT from the way some animals behave, many people do believe animals think and have feelings similar to humans. For examples: Elephants group together to solve problems and will not leave a calf behind. Dolphins seem to have thought processes. Some even seek humans for help.

That is a matter of opinion. For example, some people may think no, because they aren't that into animals. Some people may think yes, because they are animal lovers. But its up to you to decide what you think about that. : D
