You've answered that already: They are prestige-hungry.
A high SAT average gives them additional bragging rights; not just for advertising purposes but for potential funding.
If the school is public a continued gain in SAT scores may lead to larger government grants to the school.
If the school is private it gives them leverage to request additional donations from supporters by showing off how well they are doing.
Whether or not you personally believe higher SAT scores actually reflect a schools performance; the fact remains many people do assume that it's a positive reflection of how well a school is doing. That belief thus potentially leads to the school getting more money in one way or another, whether public or private.
High schools are required to maintain the football scores for scholarship offers for their students, competing with other high schools, for talent scouts and news reports and rewards.
boner.
Academic scores for Madison High School, as well as many other schools located throughout the US, can be found on the Great Schools website. You can find the average scores for students on standardized tests as well as who their teachers are and how many students attend the school.
SAT score requirements vary drastically, and while some top-notch colleges require high scores, there are many schools that hardly pay any attention to the scores.
The scores a student needs on the SAT or ACT depends on where he or she wants to attend college. Some colleges and universities are test optional and do not require admission test scores. Some schools will admit students with below average scores, but other schools have very high standards and only admit students with top scores.
yes, different schools requires different scores.
A lot of schools offer scholarships upon admittance for high ACT scores. I got a 32 on the ACT and a full tuition scholarship from my school based on that. All I have to do it keep my GPA up.
Check with your high schools College/Career Office or Guidance Office. They should be able to give you information.
Well, its depending on which you prefer; academics, athletics or both? I suggest doing research look at their SAT scores or football league divisions. There are many high schools in Bakersfield. And a lot of them are great high schools, for example, Frontier High School is only 5 years old and has one of the highest SAT scores and is a runner-up in their division last year. Stockdale is also a great high school, they have some high test scores and an all around excellent sports program. Ridgeview High is another great school. Once again, do some research and find out what you think is the best high school.
obsessed
Colleges are interested in SAT scores because these scores test the amount of knowledge one has gained in school. These scores give an estimate of the basic knowledge of the student. It is also a yardstick that they can use for everyone. Different high schools and even different teachers within a high school are prone to make things easier or harder. Let's compare two schools. School 1 is pretty easy. 25-30% of the students get straight A's. School 2 is a bit harder. Less than 10% of students get straight A's. Does that mean that students in school 1 are smarter? Most likely not. The classes are easier and/or the grading scale is more leninent. When students from both these high schools apply to college, how does the college compare their performance? It is very difficult since it seems that the high schools have different difficulty levels. So the college needs something to put everyone on the same playing field, something that is standard. So they look at standardized test scores, such as the ACT and SAT. By doing so, they can compare students from different high schools more easily.
