The spirit bear is white because a neutral mutation happens when the order of A (adenine) T (thymine) G (guanine) or C (cytosine) is changed. if both parents have this altered gene, they can have an offspring, the bear has to get both altered genes so it can have two copies just like any other DNA.

Only 1 out of every 10 black kermode bears is white, in order to save the population of white bears. they must also protect black kermode bears because without them white kermode's cannot be produced.
