It has been around for 200,000,000 years.
Shanghai, China is nearest to the mouth of the Yangtze river.
Several species of dolphins are endangered for many reasons. The Yangtze river dolphin is endangered, practically extinct, due to the small area it lives in, the river Yangtze, which is a very busy boat route. Many other species are endangered due to illegal catching of dolphins and because of fishing nets that trap them.
As of the latest estimates, the Yangtze river dolphin, also known as the baiji, is considered functionally extinct, with no confirmed sightings since 2002. Conservation efforts have failed to locate any remaining individuals, and the species was declared critically endangered prior to its presumed extinction. Various factors, including habitat loss, pollution, and overfishing, have contributed to its decline.
A numerous amount of Baiji were hunted thanks to the initiative by the government, but this was short lived as the government took action and banned hunting it. However, ever since pollution degradation of its environment lead to its extinction.
what is the river yangtze used for
The dolphin species in danger of extinction are the Indus river dolphin, which is a blind dolphin very small which live in the main river of Pakistan, the Indus. There are less than 600 dolphins left of this species.
