I have a theory. I've noticed the easiest way to tell a bird of prey apart from non predatory birds is by the tail shape and head. If the head and tail are white it's very difficult for the prey to recognize the eagle as a predator against the sky. I've noticed pigeons where I live don't mind the turkey buzzards flying over head, but as soon as a hawk in the air they immediately bolt. If all you can see of a bald eagle in the sky is the wing shape, it is easy to think the large bird may just be a goose, duck or buzzard.
Well, that is just the way they were formed. Not much of this question can be awnserd. sorry .
They don't. Eagles have feathers on their heads. The bald eagle has white feathers on its head. At one time, the word "bald" meant white.
Yes, they do. In fact, they are not bald at all. The feathers on their head is white with the rest of the body brown and black.
You may be thinking of a vulture, which only has skin on its head. The bald eagle, however, has white feathers on its head.
First of all, bald eagles are not bald. Some people say this bird was given the name "Bald eagle" because the lighter feathers on its head make the bird appear bald from a distance. In fact, the word "bald" comes from the old English term "balde" which originally meant white, not hairless. The bald eagle's scientific name, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, stands for:sea (halo), eagle (aeetos) and white (leukos), as in the feathers on the eagle's head. So there you have it, the bald eagle is a seabird with a white head.Bald comes from the old word balde, meaning white, and as you probably know Bald Eagles have white head and tail feathers. So Bald Eagle basically means White Eagle. They have white feathers on their heads. From a distance this made it look like they had no feathers on their heads, and they appeared to be bald. The bald eagles name comes from Latin. The scientific name means sea eagle with a white head. Long ago the word "bald" meant "white" not lack of hair.Haliacetus Leucocephalus
One bird described as "bald" because of the white feathers on its head is the American Bald Eagle, a protected species that is the official bird of the nation as a whole.
