The sun never rises Ember is UNDER GROUND
In the book "The City of Ember," the people of Ember have never experienced life outside of their underground city before. They are completely unaware of the existence of the world above ground and the circumstances that led to their underground lifestyle.
In the book "The City of Ember" by Jeanne DuPrau, it is mentioned that 400 people were selected to go to the underground city of Ember.
Some examples of prepositional phrases in the book "The City of Ember" could be "in the city," "under the ground," "through the dark tunnel," or "above the surface." These phrases provide additional information about the location or direction of characters and events in the story.
In 'The People of Sparks' (the Second Book of Ember) three characters travel to a "great city" located on an enormous bay by the ocean. It is also mentioned that it rains during Winter, but there is no mention of snow. By these two clues I think we can safely assume that Ember's hill/cave and the town of Sparks are near San Francisco.
