The Rocky Mountains are the backbone of North America. They continue down through Central America and connect with the Andes Mountains which are the backbone of South America.
South America stretched down to the Antarctic. Therefore it has a polar climate.
Because America is a continent there's North America, South America and, Central America. North America is made of Canada, the USA, and Mexico. Central America is From Guatemala to Panama, South America is from Colombia to Ecuador. The Americas were named by German Cartographer Martin Waldseemüller in 1507 after Amerigo Vespucci, an Italian explorer. Vespucci himself only explored parts of South America.
The Andes
Caribbean islands (for example A. sabanus) as well as Florida and down to Central and parts of South America. They have a number of different subspecies (my favorite being A. alisoni).
Spain gained control of most of the Americas, from northern California down down to Tierra del Fuego, in South America.
