Since at the time of oogenesis (in females).. after meiosis I the oocytes gets divided and leads to the formation of a primary oocyte and a polar body.. after that, the primary oocyte again divide and then forms secondary oocyte (ovum or egg) and two polar bodies.. now the total no. of polar bodies are three and these three polar body submitt there cytoplasm to the secondary oocyte.. which then become large.. On the other hand, at the time of spermtogenesis (in males) formation of sperms does not lead to formation of any polar body. Rather the sperms gets fully mature by themselves.. That's why the size of the egg or ovum is larger than sperm.
The size of egg is larger than sperm because the the sperm enters inside the egg and egg has to accommodate the sperm. And egg contains fats and nutrients in order to feed zygote in case of pregnancy.
If there was more eggs, then there would be like 1,000,000 kids. There are alot of sperm because most of the sperm will die trying to find the egg within 2 days. So there is usually only one or to sperm that finds the egg. Sources:

the egg cell is bigger because there is some "food" for the early start of fertilization of live on in it's early days.
Sperms need to swim all the way to the egg cell,if the sperm is bigger, how can it penetrates inside the egg cell, and how can it develop inside the woman's womb.
It is considerably smaller, for one thing. But besides that, a sperm cell is essentially a delivery package for DNA; the egg cell, once fertilized, does the rest of the work.
I think it has something to do with how they are made
An egg cell contains nutrients necessary to begin development. Also it's much easier to hit a large target than a small one.
the egg is larger than the sperm cell
assuming you mean a sperm and not a cingular cell of a sperm, it is about 1/18th the size of an ovum.
The egg consists of food for the embryo for the first four days. In addition, it also needs to accommodate the sperm, which is why it is longer than the sperm.
The ovum is in general a large cell. It is about the size of a dot made with an ink pen, and sometimes ova can be seen with the naked eye. Most cells are smaller than the ovum.
Red blood cell
A lot bigger. The ovum is 120 µm in diameter and the sperm cell is about 1 µm in diameter (not counting the tail).
the egg is larger than the sperm cell
Egg cells are the biggest: you could only fit one on the head of a pin. But I'm not sure if a sperm cell is bigger than a red blood cell or vice versa.
The egg cell is 85,000 times bigger than the sperm
Krill is a animal of the sea like shrimp. However, krill are not bigger than shrimp, they are significantly smaller than shrimp.

A sperm cell is a different shape than a regular body cell. It sort of looks like a lemon with a tail. The main difference the between sperm cells and regular body cells is that sperm cells only have 23 chromosomes compared to the 46 in normal body cells do to undergoing meiosis.
the egg is larger than the sperm cell
A female's ovaries send out an egg every month (period/menstration cycle) and a male has sperm. Eggs are about 100 times bigger than sperm.
Eukaryotic cells are much larger than prokaryotic cells.
