Yes. I live just north of Orlando, Florida and there's a lightning bug flashing on my back door right now. However, I've never seen more than one or two at a time in the past ten years I've lived here. When I lived in Ohio, as a child, there used to be thousands in the yard at night. I don't know if there naturally aren't as many lighting bugs in Florida, or if they're disappearing everywhere.

I live in Alpine, Arizona, at an elevation of about 8,000 feet above sea level. We have lightning bugs! The kids just caught some and let them go! They live around water and come out thick in the evening right after a monsoon rain. We love watching them! So, YES, there are lightning bugs in Arizona!!

I just typed this very question into Google, to find out if anyone else had seen this. I've been in Tampa, Florida since 1995 and had never seen one, nor heard on anyone seeing any. Then tonight, amid a big clump of floating island in the pond that borders my backyard, there were hundreds of fask blinking fireflies! I looked like a magical display. I've vener seen anything like it! The firefliess I used to see up North blinked slowly, and make little streaks as they flew. These things were like little flashing LEDs! Maybe about 7 or 8 quick flashes and then a pause. The mass of them together in the dark was amazing!

Yes they do, although they are losing habitat. You should be able to see them in more rural areas.
