The Breaker Boys were children, some as young as seven years old, that picked over coal in a Pennsylvania mine. Their work was very dangerous and extremly difficult. A committee investigating child labor found more than ten thousand children illegally employed in the Pennsylvania coal-fields.
"The Breaker Boys" takes place in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, in 1897.
They did not do anything because they were to big of bums to work. All they probally did was sit down in the mine and have a circle jerk together. I mean its the truth.

From 1839 to 1848 laborers, such as breaker boys were 82 cents an day, without docking any of it. After their wages increased, but not by much.
Breaker boys, who worked in coal mines primarily in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, typically earned very low wages, often around $1 to $2 per day. Their work involved separating coal from slate and other debris, which was dangerous and grueling. Despite the hard labor, many families relied on these earnings for survival amid tough economic conditions. Overall, their income was minimal and reflected the exploitation of child labor during that era.
