The fact that the largest Jewish population in the world (outside of Israel) is the United States is a historical accident. Prior to World War II, the Jewish populations in Europe and the Mediterranean, especially Eastern Europe were many times larger than the Jewish population in the United States. However, the Holocaust forced many Jews to flee and many more to die, making the United States one of the largest Jewish populations in the world. The bottom line is that the United States never engaged in any widespread Jewish massacres or attacks, making it a place where Jews could live, more or less, peacefully, especially in comparison to the repeated persecutions in Europe and the Islamic World.

It is worth noting that while Jews are prominent in the United States, they are still quite a small minority in the country, consisting of roughly 2% of the US population.

Jewish population figures for the United States are contested, ranging between 5.7 and
6.8 million. If you take the highest estimated figure ... and something tells me you will ...
then Jews account for something like 2.1% of the US population of 318.9 million (2014).

At this point, I truly don't know where to go next, and what to do with that number. Is it a
number that someone would look at it and go "Hoo wheee ! Why so many ? ! ?" I don't know.

Quite frankly, I don't know how to approach your question, because it's difficult to spot the spirit
and intent from which you're asking it. Are you implying that Jews have somehow infiltrated our
country, and taken control over more than a fair share of the USA's property, employment, and
resources ?

Do you feel that Jews as a group exercise control over aspects of the country that's injurious to
the non-Jewish population ? Are you uncomfortable with anything more than a token Jewish
population, because your sense is that Jews should not be allowed to live here in quantities
above a certain number ?

It would tell me a lot if I could understand what it is about the American Jewish population that strikes you as somehow anomalous, somehow out of balance, somehow not what it 'should' be.

Do you feel that a national public survey should be taken, each individual's religious origin, beliefs and practices should be tallied up, and when some category exceeds its rightful representation in the USA (determined by somebody's committee), their excess should be given a small suitcase and
a one-way ticket to a shrinking Arctic ice-flow ?

What is the point that you're trying to make?

That the US was justified in not allowing more Jewish refugee to emigrate?

The US was justified (and Israel and Britain and other countries) by accepting a limited amount of the Jews from Europe after World War 2 because:They accepted 250,000 displaced Jews and those who had relatives in the USA. That was a large amount of non-English speaking people to accept all at once and the US took the bulk of the displaced Jews from Europe. The majority of the Jews were sick, in poor health and would not be ready to be active citizens of the nation. Many came to the country with no money or less than a dollar in their pocket. Many were very emotionally scarred. The US had to find places for them and people to help them readjust to a new nation and recover from their ordeals. The amount of Jewish immigrants who came to the US was a monumental about of people for the US Dept of Immigration to handle.See the related link below for some other interesting facts.
