Feedback loop, perhaps. The more a name get associated with something, the more people want to name their children with that name and the name will get associated with more things and so on.
For example, kingly names become known as kingly names which causes more kings to want the name.

There were at least 8 Henrys in the English history. Lady Jane Grey was the great-granddaughter of Henry VII, and ruled for only nine days in 1553. As a Protestant and rival to the later Mary I , she was killed in the Tower.
