Yes and no. Yes, they do respond to stimuli, reproduce, have different levels of organization, they are composed of cells, they grow, adapt, and use energy.
However, Viruses can only do these things If they have a host to use. So, Yes they do show all the characteristics of living things, and no, not unless they have a host.
This question is arbitrary, but here's a negative opinion on this:
Viruses do not have, nor exist as, a cell. Cells are a clear sign of life in any microbe, whether just one (unicellular) or many (multicellular).
Viruses do not create proteins despite the presence of ribosomes in some. There are many strategies for a virus to obtain the needed protein, usually through a genome which supplies it for each new pathogen. The virus will oftentimes infect a host cell which integrates the genome and makes proteins for the virus with it's own ribosomes.
Viruses DO contain DNA / RNA, but in order to replicate it, they require a host cell. Point of focus being, they 'hijack' the living aspect from the host cell.
The protein coat of a virus can be considered a cell wall, but as for repelling outside forces, it is quite bad the purpose.
As they are actually dead which makes it so hard to rid a virus and they come to life when they start to feed on your body.Glad to help.
because you go into sites that are bad or like facebook myspace live lots of viruses
they reproduce in inside a cell and multiply
Because they reproduce and spread

viruses do not grow, and viruses do not respond to changes in their environment. Therefore, viruses are not living organisms. All living things reproduce, but Viruses need living cells to reproduce because Viruses cannot reproduce by themselves.
Viruses can reproduce only inside a cell of living organisms. Viruses are sometimes considered non-living structures because they lack cells.
Viruses have some, but not all, of the characteristics of living things.
Yes **G1N4** I thought some living things are not organisms, because they are not free living.
One of the characteristics is they contain genetic material (DNA), which is a characteristic that all living things must have in order to be considered living. And also when inside a host, they are able to reproduce, which all living things must be able to do.
Viruses depend on living cells because they reproduce inside of them.

Yes. Viruses are living things too.
The difference is that viruses are smaller than bacteria. One more major difference is that bacteria are living things whereas viruses are non living things.
Viruses are not living things. Viruses are complicated assemblies of molecules, including proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates, but on their own they can do nothing until they enter a living cell. Without cells, viruses would not be able to multiply. Therefore, viruses are not living things.
viruses are nonliving things. but they need living things to reproduces. so live

Everything that are living are living organisms. Every other things are not considered to be a living organism e.g. viruses.
Bacteria and viruses are small and can only be seen through a microscope. The small living things are microorganisms or microbes. Some people do not think viruses are living things because they are acellular particles. They consider them to be an organic structure that interacts with living organisms.
Viruses are things that spread and contain germs. An Organism is a living thing.

They reproduce.
