because it got colder and turned into ice... if you look in the freezer there is snow all around put some in a plate then watch what happens

Ice is slippery, means cars can't brake or steer as hard as on dry roads w/o going into skid or a slide. And a skidding/sliding car will basically go where it wants regardless of what the driver wants. Maybe off the road, maybe into another car.
