Some christian denominations do baptise children when they are still babies. However, other denominations DEDICATE their children but leave them to make their own choice about baptism.

My denomination dedicates - so I will explain that in order to answer your question- if you don't think I do answer it, sorry and I hope someone else will edit it. Basically, when a child is born into the church, their parents often decide to dedicate their child. THey are dedicating it to God and saying that they understand that the child is a gift from God and belongs to God. The parents, God parents and congregation then make vows to bring the child up in the best, christian way possible. When that child is older - If they understand and accept the teaching they have received and if they become christians, they may want to be baptised.

In Anglican churches, babies are baptised as infants. This is similar to dedication but as I said, slightly different. So, to answer your question, because the parents and the church want to recognise that the baby is a precious gift from God and they want to show that publicly. Some people, if their babies are born ill or close to death, even if the parents are not christians, they want their baby to go to heaven so thay will baptise it. Personly, I think babies and young children would go to heaven anyway.

Hope this is helpful... :D

The Catholic Church baptizes infants for many reasons. For one, Catholics acknowledge the reality of original sin, that every human being is conceived with the guilt of the sin of Adam on his or her soul. In light of original sin, infant baptism becomes necessary as the means with which to cleanse a person of that sin so that he or she can experience the first fruits of Christ's salvation.

Catholics also baptize infants because, as Paul says, baptism is the new circumcision (cf. Col 2:11-12). Before Christ, a person participated in the covenant of God and became a member of His People through circumcision. After Christ, this same effect is achieved through baptism. And, as Jews circumcised their infants, so does the Church baptize Her infants.

Thirdly, Catholics baptize infants in obedience to Christ, who said to the Apostles, "Bring the children unto me and do not hinder them, for to such as these belongs the kingdom of heaven" (Mt 19:14). In baptism, we bring our children to Christ and allow Him to heal them so that they can have a share in the kingdom that is rightfully theirs. To reserve the saving effect of baptism to adults is to say that children do not have a share in the kingdom, which would contradict what Jesus is saying here.

Finally, Catholics baptize infants because this was the practice of the early Church, as indicated in Scripture (cf. Acts 2:38-39 and the entire households who were baptized, cf. Acts 10:47-48; 16:15, 30-33) and in the writings of the early Church Fathers (see the Related Links below), and because such practice has been the constant Tradition of the Church.

  1. Some Christian sects (most notably Roman Catholics) baptize infants as an act of committing the child to God. It represents the will of the parents and is basically to protect the child. Other groups (Baptists, for example) believe the commitment must be a decision of the person in question, and therefore takes place later, when he or she is capable of making the choice.

How do babies get baptized in other religions?

In Christianity, babies are typically baptized by sprinkling or immersion in water as a ritual symbolizing purification and acceptance into the faith. In Hinduism, a baby's first formal introduction to the religious and spiritual world often includes a naming ceremony and other rituals, but not baptism as seen in Christianity. In Islam, there is no concept of baptism for infants; children are considered innocent and not responsible for their actions until they reach the age of maturity.

Why according to god are babies born with original sin meaning the ability to sin when people who have been baptised removing this can still sin?

When you are baptized every sin you have commited before that time you are free from. But if you are a baby you havent commited any sin because to commit a sin you must know it is wrong but still do it.
