I read somewhere on the internet that there was a defect with the ingnition switch due to a recall and what they were doing was installing a relay switch. i dont know if that is it but that is what i read and heard.
The throttle position sensor is on the throttle shaft, on the throttle body.
Its attached to the throttle body and should have about 4-5 wires going into it, it also should be near the end of the throttle cable
The throttle position sensor is located on the throttle body. If you follow the throttle cables to the throttle body the TPS will be on the oposite side of the throttle body as the cables attach to.
There is an adjustment screw on the side of the throttle body that adjusts how open the throttle body sits.
the t.p.s is right across from the throttle cable on the throttle body the when u find it u will see how to take it off

Generally, on ther throttle body. It is located 90 degrees from the accelerator cable.

The first thing that i would check is the t.p.s which is the throttle position sensor, if it is sticking, or shorting out, it may cause the problem you stated.
All cars built in the 90's and 2000 do not have a carburator. They are fuel injected. It is not recommended to put gas in the throttle body.
