Vitamin D has fat soluble compounds known as calciferols. Vitamin D is not a true vitamin because it can be absorbed by your skin when cholosteral reacts with ultraviolet light from the sun. Sunscreens and clothes can block UV sunlight rays from reaching the skin and would cause vitamin D deficiency. To help prevent this possibilty, foods or drinks like milk or vitamin water would work very well with Vitamin D2 and D3. However, a very severe deficiency of vitamin D can lead to softening of bones called the osteomalacia in adults and rickets in teens and children.

Vitamin D is produced by humans when exposed to sunlight.

A vitamin D deficiency is caused by not enough time in full sun.

Away from the equatorial regions, light skinned people need about 20 min in the sun to synthesize enough Vit D, while dark skinned people need several hours.

Synthetic vitamin D is added to milk.

When someone suffers with a vitamin D deficiency they could have bone pain and muscle weakness as minor symtoms but it can become more serious. The serious symtoms would be dying from cardiovascular disease and cancer. To fix the vitamin D deficiency, your doctor would get you to start eating the right foods and taking supplements so your body would get the proper vitamin D amounts.
