The female may be coming into season, and is preparing for laying eggs. Even if there is no (and never was) any male present, the female can lay eggs. There won't be anything inside, but the female may feed and prepare it like there is. If she does lay eggs, let her fidde around with them. Once she becomes uninterested, remove the eggs and throw them out (make sure there are no real young in the egg before you throw it out! You can probably tell by holding the egg under a light.)

If there WAS a male present, the female may be pregnant and will be preparing for eggs. If it's true, the male is there to feed the female while the female is preparing the nest for her young.

If the female goes in labor, stay quiet. The male will most likely be out of the nest and the female will be in the nest for days or hours on end.

If it is a male; it's a different story, and I don't know the answer to that.

Do parakeets have to breed in a breeding cage?

Not necessarily. You can breed them in any cage.

Why do female parakeets destroy other female parakeets eggs?

If you are asking this, you are probably colony breeding budgies in an aviary I highly advise you stop breeding and research budgies for a few years and then you may start planning. Hens will destroy other pairs eggs for a few different reasons. The hen may want the nesting box for herself to use, so she cleans it out. She may want to breed with the cock so she destroys the pairs eggs. She may just be jealous. Never, ever, ever keep more than one breeding pair in a single breeding box or aviary. I also do not recommend the use of aviaries for breeding. Keeping an uneven amount of hens and cocks in a breeding environment will result in bloody fights.

When are parakeets sexually mature?

You will know when your parakeets (male and female only) want to mate when they start to get along with each other. The male will start to respect the female and began feeding her. This is also a sign for breeding. Enjoy breeding your parakeets! Trust me, it's a LOT of fun!

Should you buy a nest for your Parakeets?

Parakeets (and parrots/budgies in general) only need a nest if you intend to be breeding them. Otherwise they do not need one and you should probably not provide it or they may begin to act like they are nesting and ignore other activities.

Male and female Parakeet how do you get them to breed?

Do you have a breeding box? If not the parakeets probably won't breed. if you do, the box should be lifted of the ground, you can sit it on your parakeets' pirch, or hang it somewhere inside the cage. make sure it can't fall easily.Next, make sure your parakeets' are happy where they are, give them treats once in a while. and don't disturb them if they don't want to be. if you can, Take them out once in a while and play with them. make sure they feel safe. You probably shouldn't put your hand in the breeding box or force your birds in there, they will go in when they want to. Provide soft material in their cage such as shredded cotton balls, shredded toilet paper, and other material. You can get some at your pet store. Put a little in the box but not all, put the rest at the bottom of the cage or on top of the box. Sometimes parakeets will want to pick out the material themselves.Make sure their cage is clean. Once in a while clean the bottom. But i wouldn't move anything like the perches, or the breeding box Once it's in there.Just be patient, it might take a while for parakeets to breed. After they breed, and lay eggs, don't touch the eggs or make the mom mad or feel scared. you can look in side once in a while but not all the time, it might make the mom feel stressed. Sometimes females might feel protective over their eggs and won't let the males near them, its natural. But sometimes the females will let the males sit on their eggs while they eat or drink. The eggs may be fertilized or unfertilized, If they don't have babies inside them, they won't hatch, so just wait till the mom looses interest in them when you can take them out. When you don't want the female to lay anymore eggs just take the breeding box out.Hopefully this information helps! sorry it's so long! :)

How do you introduce a nesting box to parakeets?

just place the nest box near the top of cage and make sure they have access to get in it and leave them alone
