The answer is very simple. Jellyfish are cnidarians. Octopi are not. Because the octopus does not have the same head structure as the jellyfish. Also octopi are cephalopods. They are closer to mollusks in the bases of things but the tentacles are different. Just because they have tentacles does not mean they are in the same categories. But octopi and squid are in the same category as mollusks such as snails. That is a different story though. But that is why they are not the same.

What do the arms of the squid do?

Squids have four pairs of arms and a pair of tentacles. The tentacles are longer than the arms. The tentacles perform the function of grabbing prey and holding on to it. There are hooks on the arms as well as the tentacles of squids but the ones on the tentacles can swivel while those on the arm cannot. These help squids hold on to their prey better while the prey tries to escpe. Suckers are present on both the arms as well as the tentacles of squids, though the ones on the arms are bigger.

Do mollusks have tentacles?

Yes. Eight , hence " Octo" .Actually that is incorrect. Octopus have 8 arms. Only squids have tentacles. Tentacles are those long arms on the squid which is meant for grabbing prey. Octopus have eight arms not tentacles. TELL ALL!!!Yes 8 to be exact!!!!!

Can a jellyfish eat a fish?

Yes, they do all the time, even though jellyfish do not have brains, their stinging tentacles are near invisible in water. Unsuspecting fish swim into these tentacles and are paralyzed by the stinging cells that the jellyfish contains which affect the nervous system. The fish is then drawn into the 'head' of the jellyfish and digested.

Will jellyfish die after sting?

No. they won't do you that favour. I mean to believe that the tentacles that stung you can't sting you a second time, though. After stinging, they're out of ammunition.

Are octopus and squid the same thing?

They are not the same at all. Squid have for example red blood awhile octopuses have blue blood. They are categorized in a whole different species. Though they do look almost the same they are still not. Squid can be found in deeper depths than octopuses, and they don't have the same behaviors.

How long is a lions mane jellyfish?

The lion's mane jellyfish, Cyanea capillata, was long-cited as the largest jellyfish, and arguably the longest animal in the world, with fine, thread-like tentacles that may extend up to 36.5 metres (120 ft) long (though most are nowhere near that large).

What is a jellyfishes defense?

Jellyfish defend themselves using nematocysts in their tentacles. Nematocysts are roughly the equivalent of having many tiny spears on the end of many tightly wound springs. Once something touches the jellyfish's tentacles, the nematocysts are launched. If you are stung, they are very painful and depending on the species of jellyfish, they can be very dangerous or even life-threatening. Jellyfish also use this same technique to catch prey.

How do jellyfish find each other?

Most jellyfish are passive drifters that feed on living or dead preys: small fish, eggs, zooplankton and other invertebrates that become caught in their tentacles. Preys are brought (by tentacles, if they have any) into the cavity, called coelenteron, where it is digested. Jellyfish have an incomplete digestive system, meaning that the same orifice is used for both food intake and waste expulsion. Jellyfish have cells called cnidocytes, which contain nematocysts, and located on their tentacles, mainly. Whenever a prey comes in contact with cnidocilia (structures of the cnidocytes), hundreds to thousands of cnidae (filaments of the nematocysts) are ejected into the prey 's direction; nematocysts' cnidae inoculate a poisonous or allergenic mixture into the prey 's body; the prey , if live, die by osmotic shock, paralysis or anaphylactic shock and is then brought to the mouth with tentacles or with oral arms. Jellyfish of the Order Rhizostomeae have no tentacles, instead they have cnidocytes on the manubrium (oral arms).they attract fish and digest them through their stingers

How do sea cucumbers get rid of waste?

Squid have a digestive system that is simple and contains the stomach, kidneys and an anus. Cilia help move food thru the Squids digestive system and out of the body.

What are jellyfishes supposed to be?

From the lighter side: Entertaining! But seriously, folks: Jellyfish are free-swimming members of the phylum Cnidaria. They can be found in every ocean and can float around near the surface or deep under. If you touch a jellyfish's tentacles (the stringy parts that flow from the rounded part), you'll get stung and it's going to be pretty nasty. There are quite a few species of jellyfish, but the scyphomedusae are the most well known. Those are the large jellyfish that are common coastal areas worldwide. Jellyfish are mostly transparent or translucent, though some may be colorful. They are carnivorous (they eat meat) and live all around the world.

Is a jellyfish a liquid?

Even though a jellyfish is 95 to 98 percent water, it would not be classified as a liquid.
