Basically the absence of light. brown is the absence of all color while grey is the inclusion of all colors. Color is not visible without light. Color theory can be a bit confusing.
An object's color is comprised of the wavelengths of light that it reflects - so an orange object reflects reds and yellows while absorbing blues and greens, while a green object is the opposite.
Color filters transmit visible wavelengths of light. Different colors respond to different wavelengths of light. Some filters work by absorbing light, while others reflect.
Black will be the color of a yellow object in a dark room while white light falls on it.
Green will be the color of a yellow object in a dark room while red light falls on it.
Rods respond to light while Cones respond to color.
Rods respond to light while Cones respond to color.
I think you may be referring to yin and yang. If my knowledge is correct then yin has a light color, usually white, while yang has a dark color, usually black.
White does not absorb light - it reflects all visible light waves, while black absorbs all visible light and reflects nothing.
Light's color depends on its wavelength. Shorter wavelengths make light more red, while longer make it more violet colored. Red light has a wavelength of approximately 700 nm, while violet light has a wavelength of 400 nm.
