i believe it started with the Greeks in believing in what we call today greek myths. The gods were the immortals to look up to in harsh times, such as disease or bad weather.

Answerreligion gives people something to hold on to when there is not much else left. it can also be used lazily, like using religion to explain everything when you do not feel like trying to learn.sometimes it is all people know, they grew up in it and know nothing else. it varies.
