Cities cannot outgrow their food and water supplies. Very large cities spend a lot of time and energy importing food and water, and handing the waste, of the population. At some point, the effort of importing food gets to be so great that the population will choose to move away to someplace nicer.
Because there are limited resources, and if the population grows then there will be less resources and the organisms will starve.
There is only so much room and resources in our world.
Food never grows exponentially.
The population loses genetic diversity

Urban areas
Population growth is limited by the supply of resources. At some point there will no longer be enough resources, such as land, fresh water, top soil to grow food in, fuel to transport the food, building materials etc to support the growing population.
