When digesting the nutrients from the food need to assimilate into the blood this is why your body can't have equal amounts of blood in the digestive and muscular system. This is the reason why excercising isn't recommended right after eating.
If you go too long without exercising your muscles and then suddenly begin to use them without gradually increasing the amount of time you use them, you can develop tendinitis, esp. in your hands, which can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome.
It is important because both muscle's are a pair, So they should both be exercised in a pair for the equal amount of strength in both muscles.
