They can, but it is not in the best interests of everyone. Pretending that an issue doesn't exist only makes it bigger. Actually dealing with the issue that some people have with gay people is the only way to create a lasting situation.
Further, it comes down to values and freedoms. It would be hard for gay people to create their own country because the Birth Rate among gay couples is exceedingly low. Further, gayness does not seem to be strictly hereditary. There would be large moral issues with separating a mother from child because one of them was gay.
