It can - in a particle accelerator - but it is an extremely stable noble gas and will not react with anything - electron configuration makes it extremely stable

Does helium have any common compounds and if there is what are they?

Helium is an element, meaning that it can't be broken down by chemical means. It is pure helium. Anything on the Period Table of Elements can't be broken down further by chemical means.

Can helium be broken down into a simpler substance?

Helium is a chemical element and is the simplest and lightest noble gas in the periodic table. It cannot be broken down into simpler substances by chemical reactions, as it consists of only helium atoms.

What can go up when it's down but cant go down when it's up?

Helium

Why helium is an element?

Helium is an element because it contains only one atom in its simplest form.

What is found on the periodic table and cant be broken down?

Elements are what make up the Periodic Table; they also cannot be broken down into smaller substances.

What element can be broken down into simpler substances?

Elements cant be, unless you are talking about sub-atomic level. Substances can be broken down to elements possibly.

Is helium photosensitive?

No. Helium is inert; it will not break down or combine with other substances. Since it is an element, it cannot be broken down by chemical means.

What are the gases making up helium and oxygen?

Helium is made up of helium and oxygen is made up of oxygen. Both helium and oxygen are elements, so they can't be broken down into anything simpler without breaking apart the atoms.

What elements can be broken down into any simpler substances?

No.An elementcan't be broken down into a simpler substance, without changing its chemical nature.

What makes helium a element?

Helium is an element because it cannot be broken down into simpler substances through chemical means. Helium, in its elemental state as a monatomic noble gas, contains helium atoms only. Thus it is an element. It has chemical symbol He and atomic number 2.

Can helium be turned in to ice?

no it cant
