Why can't vampires look in mirrors?

There are several 'myths' relating to vampires and mirrors, one being that vampires have no reflection. In actual fact vampires can look in mirrors and do have reflections in them. It would take several 'bendings' of the basic law of the universe to get around this one.

The origin of this myth is with Count Dracula who had a whole bucket load of quirks that people now attributed to all vampires in general. One of these was that he could not look in a mirror. All the mirrors in his castle were covered by sheets. Even Johnathan Harker's travel shaving mirror was undoubtedly broken by the Count. The basis of this quirk is probably in the Count's own self-loathing. Dracula (while he had be fully alive) had been a Knight in defense of Christendom against the Ottoman Turks and was no doubt quite bias. Now that he is a vampire he has difficulty 'seeing what he has become' - cannot stand to behold a crucifix either, another trait probably arising from the same inner conflict.

Now I am aware of quite a few books and movies that use the no 'reflection trait' (Andy Warhol's Dracula for example) but such I attribute to hyperbole on the part of the writers and not to basic vampire fact.

Why don't vampires show up in mirrors?

Vampires don't mind mirrors actually. They are afraid of crosses but not mirrors. The connection between mirrors and vampires is that vampires can't be seen in mirrors. I suppose if mirrors did bother a vampire it would be because perhaps they are tortured by the fact that they can never be human again, and not being able to see their reflection would be a reminder of this.

Why is it said that vampires do not have reflections in mirrors?

The belief that vampires do not cast reflections in mirrors is a common superstition in vampire folklore. This idea is rooted in the connection between mirrors and the soul, and the belief that vampires lack a soul or have an altered, supernatural reflection that cannot be seen in a mirror.

Do Vampires Have A Reflection?

No stupid read a vampire book for once! no Vampires actually do have a reflection. It is just that some vampires avoid mirrors because a visual confrontation as to what they have become is bothersome. It from such aversions and negative reactions to mirrors that the myth of a non-reflection has evolved. All the mirrors in Count Dracula's castle were covered but apparently this was not done by the count -- probably by one of his 'vampire brides'.

Why do vampires can't see their reflection in the mirror?

According to folklore and mythology, vampires lack a soul, which prevents their reflection from being visible in mirrors. This concept plays on the idea that mirrors reflect a person's soul or inner essence, so since vampires supposedly don't have one, their reflection doesn't appear. This belief contributes to the mystique and supernatural characteristics associated with vampires in popular culture.
