Why can't you find a serial number on your Stevens 12 gauge shotgun?

Serial numbers were not required on long arms before Jan 1, 1969. Most manufacturers did not assign serial numbers to small caliber rifles or utility shotguns.

That is a very early serial number!If you have a auto-5 12 gauge shotgun,then the year of manufacture is 1904.If you have a 16 gauge shotgun,then the year of manufacture is between 1910-1912.
