The programming language on the current PS3 is different from the one that was made for the PS2. While early generation PS3's were backwards compatible, Sony made the decision not to include the older operating system in newer models.

No. Since the ps3 is much more advanced then ps2, it wont be able to play it. Think of it like this. If you look at ps1, you cant play ps2 games there because ps2 games are too advanced to be played from ps1. Same applies for ps3 to ps2
