Liquids and gases can vibrate. In fact sound is the vibration of air molecules.

Can particles always vibrate in all directions?

well only liquid and gases can vibrate in all directions because with a solid there all stuck together and cant move but when it comes to liquid and gas they move and vibrate in all directions.

How gases are different from solids?

They are lighter in density as compared to solids. Gas are compressible, whereas not all solids. Gases exhibit better flow characteristics than solids. Gases readily react with other substances. All solids are seen by the naked eye whereas some gases are not.

How do you identify gases and solids and liquids?

You can identify solids liquids and gases by seeing how they actually look like for e.g.: I am sure you must like chocolate, well chocolate is actually a solid as it is all in one shape. You cant break it very easily so you have to put a bit of force onto it. You must obviously love let's say coke, well coke is actually a liquid as it can flow and you cant catch it in your hands and hold it the same way you do to chocolate or can you? No! A gas is when you cant see or feel it or hold. So basically the 3 states of matter: solids liquid and gases are based on their properties which are further divided into physical properties and chemical properties. Hope this helps!

What can gases do that solids cant?

They can take the shape of their container, and some are able to rise above air (some gases are lighter and some are heavier than room air.)

Is the Milky Way a solid liquid or gas?

the milky way galaxy doesnt exactly have a form. There are solids, liquids and, gases but the galaxy itself has no form. the universe is made outta matter which cant be defined as a form so the answer would be none of the above

Why can liquids and gases take the shape of their containers but solids cant?

Because a solid is.. well, solid. Liquids morph, because they aren't "hard"

How do gases behave?

Gases - force of attraction is very weak - the particles in gases have a lot of space in between them - move very freely - gases are the least dense (from solids and liquids) - particles in gases are very "excited" and move around a lot.

Why can gases be squashed but solids cant?

because the bond of a solid are fit and tight together and the bond of the gas is far apart making the gas easily squash

What is heat transfer by convection possible only in liquids and gases?

Because convection occurs by convection currents. Convection currents occur as a result of the movement of a body. Since solids cant move, convection only occurs in fluid, i.e., liquids and gases

Are bubbles a solid liquid or a gas?

Balloons are solids. They are filled with gases.

Why Solids are strong?

Solids are strong because they are not like liquids, liquids can go through your hand and solids cant

Why can't you squash a solid or a liquid?

In solids and liquids the molecules are already very close together so they can't be squeezed together much more than that. In a gas molecules are very spread out so they can be compressed.
