Some lizards grow new tails because when they are attacked by a predator, their tail will break off and the veins will close instantly so no blood is lost. The tail will keep moving so the predator will go after the tail and the lizard can escape.
Not all lizards do this since many of them do need their tails for important things, like chameleons, which have prehensile tails or big ones like crocodiles and komodo dragons, which use them for balance, swimming, or to attack.
They regrow their lost tail (Or any lost limb on certain species, like the salamander Axolotl) by sending stem cells to that place to regenerate.
I'm not 100% sure about all of this, but it's what I've heard so far, so... You might want to do more research....
It depends on the lizard like a bearded dragon cannot grow it's tail back. What kind of lizard are you talking about?
A lizard can regenerate their tails once it is taken off.
They chop off their penises and super glue it to their butts. They instantly grow a new penis afterwards, and the penis becomes part of the lizard's butt, making a new tail.
Most of them do not. It is only specific species that do, and even then not always. Those that do have sponstansiluzzional tails.
A lizard's tail. Five lizards' tails.
yes, all lizards do that but some prefer to not.
A lizard can grow to about 9.75 centimeters.
When geckos are being chased and a predator catches it tail and tries to catch it that way the predator will pull off the tail and the gecko will get before the predator notices and later the geckos grow their tails back
Lizards can lose their tails, but not all lizards can grow them back.Lizards that lose their tails may grow them back but the replacement tail is never as long or as colorful as the original one. Replacement tails grow back in as little as three months or as long as two years. In Iguanas and Komodo Dragons, the tail bones are not designed to break easily and the tail muscles are also not designed to pull apart smoothly. These lizards however can also lose their tails, but it takes a much stronger pull to make this happen. With these types of lizards, the wound heals, but the tail does not grow back. The main species that are capable of regrowing their tails are skinks and salamanders. So the answer may be that your blue tailed lizard (which is likely a blue tailed skink) will grow his tail back, it will just be a while.
No, one of the lizards that don't is the bearded dragon
All lizards can lose their tails by getting it eaten off or something, but some lizards can 'lose' their tails. As in, if you frighten it or catch it by the tail, the lizard could detatch the tail from their body (and it would still move to confuse the attacker), and they could run away and regenerate the tail. =) -kelsey.
lizards drop there tails when a perdator attacks because they are either frightened or nervous a lizard drops its tail before it runs away so that the predator focuses on the tail and not the lizard. the process of the tail is to wiggle and catch the attention of the predator while the lizard escapes the tail will wiggle for approximatly 5 minutes and the lizard will re-grow its tail back but the lizards tail will become smaller then the first tail, and the tail bone will be differant.
