Can you use steam cleaner on pergo floor?

Steam cleaners are not recommended for Pergo or laminate floors because regular use will cause the substrate to swell as moisture gets between the seams. This can cause the flooring to buckle and come apart. Steam can be worse than regular mopping this way, because it is more permeable, and can get down between the cracks and into the substrate. Some people still believe, since steam cleaners use less and evaporate quicker, that steam cleaning is safer than cleaning with a bucket-and-mop. While it can depend on how hot your cleaner gets and how much moisture it puts out, and if your seams are only on the perimeter, in the long term it is inadvisable to steam-clean laminate floors.

Can you use a steam cleaner to clean non-sealed hard wood floors?

Best avoid something like that. Steam cleans, but the heated water vapor penetrates the wood and can cause it to swell. Even a bit may do some damage.

Can you use a steam cleaner as a vacuum cleaner?

Overwhelmingly, no. There are only two steam cleaners available on the market with a built in vacuum. Most people don't buy them to use as a vacuum cleaner though, they are bought because the vacuum gives the steam cleaner the ability to clean carpets on top of their already well known ability to clean hard surfaces. There are some steam cleaners that can be used for carpets and rugs. In fact, they tend to clean the carpet better than most vacuums. They do a much better job at deep cleaning, removing carpet stains, eliminating allergens. Some provide the ability to achieve all of this without harmful chemicals.

Hardwood Floors Offer Many Advantages?

Hardwood floors are enjoying a renaissance for many reasons. They wear well, are relatively easy to install, last many years, and can actually raise the resale value of homes. Hardwood floors are an excellent alternative to carpeting since they are easier to maintain, and preferable in homes where people suffer from allergies. Unlike carpeting, hardwood can be swept or vacuumed and virtually all the dust, pollen, mold spores, or fungi are removed. Most hardwood floors do not emit hazardous fumes after installation, while many carpets off gas after installation. Hardwood floors are also easy to clean frequently, a consideration many find appealing, especially those with children and pets at home. Spills are easily cleaned from hardwood floors, and simple household cleaners can remove any bacteria caused by the contamination. Vinegar is an excellent disinfectant and actually improves the surface shine of hardwood floors, and is inexpensive compared to other cleaners. In contrast, cleaning carpeted floors is generally a full scale production using specialized equipment while cleaning hardwood floors is as simple as running a mop or floor scrubber over them. Hardwood floors last forever. Today’s new finishes are tough and durable, but should a scratch occur, there are many fillers that will mend the scratch and the floor will look brand new. There are styles of hardwood floors that will go with just about any kind of decor, as well. They can be rustic or elegant and adding an accent rug can easily change the appearance of a room. Hardwood floors can be installed over any kind of substrate, according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Some people have the skills to install the hardwood floors, but the novice handyman or woman probably leave the task up to the professionals to get the best installation of the flooring possible. Many homeowners have made the switch from carpet to hardwood floors and enjoy the benefits of handsome flooring that is easy to maintain, extremely durable, and attractive for many years

Tips on Caring for Hardwood Floors?

Hardwood floors are a beautiful and classic way to cover your home’s floors. Whether you own an older home with original hardwood floors or a newer one with recently added hardwood floors, you definitely have beautiful flooring in your home. But, just like anything that is beautiful, hardwood flooring takes some special maintenance and care to maintain its natural beauty. Avoid damage to your beautiful wood floors. Don’t move furniture across your hardwood floors without ensuring that the furniture is either lifted off of the floors and carried or special furniture moving pads are used - this will avoid dents, gouges and scratches from table legs, couch legs and other furniture pieces. Having a polyurethane coating applied to your hardwood floors is a great way to preserve the natural beauty of your flooring while avoiding water damage. Never use floor cleaners that contain ammonia or bleach on your hardwood flooring. This will cause damage to your floors and will cause you to have to refinish your hardwood floors. Only use cleaning products that are intended for hardwood floors, make sure you read the labels before applying any product and follow all instructions carefully. Before applying any cleaner or polish to your hardwood flooring, make sure you test a small area that is out of sight and make sure it won’t damage your floors. Daily care for hardwood floors is very simple. You can simply sweep with a broom or a dust mop daily and get small pieces of debris and dirt off of your floors. This is important, as small debris and dirt can eventually damage your flooring and its finish, causing scratches, gouges or dulling your floors. Mopping with a specialty hardwood floor cleaner at least once a week will keep your floors shiny, clean and looking great. Never apply floor wax to unfinished hardwood floors, this will cause a film on your floors and can even make them sticky. Floor wax is only intended for use on finished woods, laminate flooring, vinyl flooring and other synthetic types of flooring. Using a product specially formulated for hardwood floors is the best way to go when it comes to making your wood flooring gleam. With these basic tips in mind, caring for your hardwood floors is simple and you’ll enjoy the beauty of them for years to come.

How to Steam Clean Floors?

If something needs to be cleaned steam cleaning eliminates dirt and harmful organisms. Some steam cleaning is even said to help allergy sufferers, making it both marketable and effective.Steam cleaning involves high heat with low-water vapor, also known as “dry” steam vapor. This form of cleaning is more well known in Europe than in North America. Steam cleaning was used for generations through a medium akin to a vacuum and can be used on multiple types of surfaces. The heat from a steam cleaner, also known as a steamer, kills harmful bacteria, dust mites, and flea and flea eggs. In the process of steam cleaning, the steam cleaner also loosens dirt and other particles from surfaces and either wipes it away or someone can then wipe down the surface using an absorbent cloth. Steam cleaners can work on clothes and carpets and have also been used for certain hardwood floors.Remove all the extra dirt and grit from the floor to maximize the value of the steam cleaner. For carpets, this can be done with a quick vacuuming and for hardwood floors, sweeping. It is necessary in particular for hardwood floors because excessive dust and grit can cause scratches while steam cleaning. Hardwood floors should be sealed and have no worn spots. Otherwise, steam cleaning can cause warping. Also, it is essential especially with allergy sufferers to use steamers that run on only water, as cleaning solutions can leave a residue that is harmful to humans and animals. Most steam cleaners work the same way. To begin, fill the cleaner’s water canister with hot tap water from the sink, adding any cleaning solution if instructed. Check for a clear or clean filer and place the canister into position. After heating the water as instructed, begin using the steam cleaning at one corner of the area and move the cleaner towards the other. Push forward to release steam and pull back to let the pad clean off dirt and grime. This pushing and pulling motion is similar to the motion needed in vacuuming. Therefore, there is more familiarity with steamers or steam cleaners.
