That is, there's no such restriction; you can wear sneakers pretty much anywhere you want. If you do wear sneakers on loose sand, you will probably get sand in them, but it's up to you how much that bothers you.
Let's see ... flip flops, sandals, sneakers (on hard packed sand) ... but high heels, not so much! :)
