Galaxies rotate around a center just as solar systems. The earth is located in one spiral arm, and on the same plane as most of the material that makes up the galaxy. In order to see the center, it must be viewed by placing a person, or spacecraft, above or below the plane, to see the whole system. It is because in the center of each galaxy including the milky way has a black hole in the center. It also depends from what way you are trying to see the galaxy. If you the wide range of satellites in Mexico they will be able to see the black hole in the center of our glaxy. But you will only see them in a whitle circle because all the carbon gases are being sucked into the blackhole. The white means that it has a lot of matter in that area. So of course the blackhole will appear white. Again this is only possible through the radio telescope sattilites in mexico.

THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS WITH TRAVELLING THE OTHER GALAXIES BUT THERE IS ONE REASON PEOPLE DONT LIKE GOING TO THEM, THEY HAVE SPECIAL NAMES THAT MAY SCARE OTHER PEOPLE FORCING THEM NOT TO GO. SOME TIMES WHEN SPACE MENCHINED PEOPLE REALY WANT TO GO BUT OTHERS DONT BECAUSE THERE ARE SOMETHINGS ON THEM WHICH PEOPLE DONT KNOW ABOUT.

The galaxy is BIG. Bigger than you can imagine. It is a spiral about 100,000 light years across and at least 1000 light years thick.

At 99.999% of the speed of light, it would take about 20,000 years to reach the near edge. (if you wanted to go "up" relative to the plane of the Galaxy, it would only take about 500 years - at 99.999% of the speed of light.)

Right now, our fastest space craft would take 5 years to get out of the solar system, and another 1000 years or more to reach the nearest star. It will take several hundred years to develop faster space vehicles to allow us to make it to the nearer stars in any reasonable period of time.

EVENTUALLY, humans will develop space vehicles fast enough to reach other stars, and even to reach the edge of the galaxy. But it won't happen in my lifetime, nor yours, nor your great-great-great-great-grandchildrens'.

Because we are actually in the Milky Way galaxy, (and well away from the centre), we can only see it edge-on . We can't even send a probe to take images of the full shape of the galaxy because it is so unbelievably big it would take more than a billion years for the probe to travel far enough away. Look for images of the Andromeda Galaxy, it's very similar.

The study of life in outer-space and on other planets and moons is Exobiology.

Possibly the most famous exobiologist was the late Carl Sagan (Nov 9, 1934 - Dec 20, 1996).

That is because there is no oxygen in other galaxies and that we humans need oxygen to survive without it, we will die....

*plus, i am only p6 so it might not be accurate

the other answer is kinda right but its really because its to far away and u wouldn't have any food or water unless u traveled at the speed of light

You could see brighter objects, like Andromeda. The other galaxies are outshined by the stars in the Milky Way.

The light of thousands or millions of stars combines to give the impression of clouds of light, even though the individual stars can't be distinguished, at least with the naked eye.

Of course it can be explored. Right now (December, 2011) there is a mission underway to explore Mars.

Why can't humans live on Mars already?

Humans can not live on mars at the moment , Simply because of the time it takes to get there , Travel is the problem not Actually Living there. Some scientist beilive we will overcome this problem .By doing something such as some how Putting Humans in suspended animation and re-awakening them on there arrival at the red planet, or developing Faster engines Etc But we can excpect the first human colonies on mars in the next about 20-30 years. As the technology needed to get there would be available and faster methods of travel should have come up.

Have you been to Mars?

On the lighter sideActually I just got done visiting Mars. It was rather nice, but I don't think that I could live there. I find that it is way too dusty. Of course, it's nice and peaceful there since there are no humans living on Mars. The only thing you would have to worry about would be the thieving Martians. And I did like the canals on Mars. Unfortunately, there was no water in them at that time of year.In conclusion, I cannot recommend living on Mars but visiting it as a tourist is very nice.

How can humans survive on Mars?

There are a few vital things needed on Mars before humans can colonize the planet.Survival in space requires a pressurized environment and must include: oxygen for humans to breathe; a thicker atmosphere for oxygen to be able to form; water for obvious reasons; and warmer temperatures as it is too cold on Mars for humans (the average temperature is -68 degrees Celsius) to survive.
