Why cant you have cell phones in school?

well first of all your at school to master reading, writing, math, ect not to master your texting skills.:) i think it wouldn't be right if people brought cell phones to classes because you will really need the things that you learn at school when your older.:) that's why i think you shouldn't have cell phones in class

Ultimately, it is more a matter of safety and security. In the US the policy of no electronic devices at school began in an effort to elminate distractions. It developed however into something else with the rise of drug use and sales at schools in the '80's and '90's and the increase in gang activity on school grounds. It became easy to spot the drig dealers and gang members early on by the multiple pagers (remember the '80's) and cell phones they carried. The purpose has begun to shift again, although not vacating past reasons. In recent years students have discovered the flexibility that texting and Twittering bring to the endeavor of cheating.

Many teachers are not aware of the rules regarding cell phone use or have decided that it just isn't worth the fight. The thing is, in most states of the US, it is actually a matter of school code, making it a crime for anyone to have an electronic device aside from a calculator of lap top at school.

When I was in the classroom, student got one opportunity. If I caught them with a cell phone in school, I confiscated it and they could claim it after school. If I caught them a second time, I had them call their parents to have an adult claim it after school. If there would ever have been a third infraction, the phone became mine, so to speak. I strongly enocourage those who are in the classroom today to become familiar with your state's school code, and enforce it. It may sound difficult, but it really does make life easier.

There are really no good reasons besides emergencies. How would you control the student in the use of the phones? It is rather like the blanket bans that cover alcohol and driving. Perhaps there are students mature enough to drink and drive at , say 16, but statistically this is too uncommon to not erect a blanket prohibition against these two activities.

Same thing with the phones. You could say fallacy of the false comparison since phones are not the danger alcohol and driving can be, but the are a danger to your education and we have enough problems with the school system turning out the uneducated to have the added distraction of phones on campus.

Wait until you get to college. Still you will see the serious student is not on the phone constantly, only sociology, and humanities " scholars " seem to have much time for yacking.

Because - you're in school to pay attention to your lessons - NOT use your phone ! Fast-food joints are full of under-educated teenagers - who's lack of attention in school resulted in failure to pass their final exams. If you want a worthwhile career - leave the handset alone - and pay attention to the teacher. If not - prepare yourself for a dead-end job such as scrubbing toilets !

It only sometimes distracts them from learning, not all students, or all the time, and it doesn't give them brain cancer.
