First off, make sure your speakers are plugged into the right socket. Check that the speaker plug goes into the GREEN OUTPUT socket. After that, check to see if you have the latest drivers for your sound card or onboard sound. Finally, make sure that these drivers are in effect at all times. That, or your speakers are broken.
1) You may not have the right drivers.
2) There may be something wrong with the speakers.
3) There may be something wrong with the motherboard.
4) Check the volume on the computer to see if it is turn off or at a low volume.
Turn on your speakers. If not working? They're broken. Also a computer usually have a sound card in the back of it. check if there's a plug for speakers or headphones. If it isn't working, might be broken. If you dont see a plug then there isn't a soundcard. Get one.
You also might have the volume button turned on mute. Check that as well.
This could be for several reasons. The first one, is to make sure your device has built in speakers or the external speakers you are using are properly connected and working. Also make sure your audio isn't muted or turned all the way down of your PC or speakers. If neither device is muted, and you are sure the speakers are working, the try updating your computer's audio driver. To do this on Windows 8, according to Microsoft's official website: Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Search.)Enter Device Manager in the search box, and tap or click Device Manager. In the list of hardware categories, double-tap or double-click the category your device is in and then double-tap or double-click the device you want. For example, to see your video card, tap or click Display adapters, and then double-tap or double-click the video card name.Tap or click the Driver tab, tap or click Update Driver, and then follow the instructions. Administrator permission is required and you might be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice. If that doesn't work navigate to the Control Panel (It should be under the settings tab in the same menu in the right side of the screen). Then select Hardware and Sound, select Sound, and you should see a list of audio devices connected to your computer. Select the one you want, select Set as Default, Apply and OK. This will set your desired audio device to the default device Windows will use to produce sound. If none of these options work, the audio port on you PC may be broken. You may want to consider using USB speakers, speakers that use a USB port to produce sound from your computer, not a standard audio port. Logitech sells a cheap model on Amazon for $8.49 called the Logitech S150. If you want USB headphones, then search around on Amazon, the are many different models at varying prices ranges. Once you acquire a USB audio device, connect it to your computer as normal and set it to the default audio device using the same directions provided above.
If you bought a new computer and you do not have sound, there could be something wrong with the sound card, your settings are not correct, or your speakers are not set up properly. Check with the dealership you purchased if from. They should be able to help you.

A PC without a sound card can beep from the in-built speaker that helps to find out about the faults in a system and produce sounds in programming languages like QBASIC.
There will be no sound if the computer has been muted, or the volume is too low, or the sound card is faulty. Try using headphones to check if the sound is there.
