For simplicity! If you run a car using AC power everything electrical in it has to be a complete looped circuit. Where as if you are running DC power you can simply earth some circuits to the car body, this makes it alot easier and you dont have to worry about overloading. Also if the car gets hit by lightning BAM there goes all your electronics if its AC.
