In the really old days when house floors were made of stone or rough wood, they would slosh water around to carry the dirt and dust away. The result would be rotted chair and table legs. In fact, today, they can verify a real antique if the feet are rotted off.
So, some enterprising chap started putting extra 'feet' on the furniture he made to keep the water away from the wood . . . the practice continues ofr looks, even though we stopped using lots of water on our floors long ago.

Office chair mats are designed to protect the floor beneath the area where an office chair has the potential to harm the flooring or carpet. Office chair mats do not consider "tired fee." because the very act of sitting does not involve the feet. Simply by sitting, feet get a break from standing/walking that is the cause of fatigue.
