If anyone is looking for a course in Art and Design, BTEC Art and Design is the best choice for you.

Last August, i got my GCSE Results and i didnt get the grades to stay on for A Levels at school so i then choose my second option, which was to do BTEC Art and Design. Ive always been interested with art and design and its something which ive wanted to learn more about and get a sucessful job out of it when im older.

On this course, I would have to go to three different schools in a week which i really didnt want to do, i thought well i want to do art so just go for it. I did it and it was the best thing i have ever done.

Btec Art and Design is only a one year course, which in a way is a bad thing because i wanted it to be a two year course because it was so good.

I am (well was) a quiet girl and from doing the course it really made me more confident. I made lots of new friends and have made lots of lifetime friendships.

The topics we look at on this course are:

  • Drawing different designs in Liverpool. For example St Georges Hall images and the two catherdrals etc.
  • Liverpool Musuems Research. For example, Sudley House, Walker Art Galary, World Musuem Liverpool etc.
  • Research on Liverpool
  • Surrealism = R'ene Magritte research, an belgian surrealist artist
  • Lots of clay work. For example i made a mug :)

Final pieces throughout the year include:

  • Environmental issues
  • Liverpool and linking in with an arist, the artist i chose was Hunderwasser
  • Liverpool and linking in with an artist, the artist i chose was Keith Haring
  • Native American designs and research on America on wood which would be put in the new Liverpool Musuem

Overall, this course is great, i would recommend anyone to do it. As i said before "Just go for it" and it will be the best thing you will ever do.

Hope i have made you think about this course a little bit more and if you do do it, good luck and i wish you every success.

What is BTEC course?

A BTEC-referring to schooling education, is worth four GCSES. Different schools will vary in what subjects they decide to use as a BTEC. A good example of a BTEC is btec sport. This is where students are asked to complete several assingments and are graded as the following: Referal Pass Merit Distinction Distinction* A pass can give a student 4 C grade gcses A merit can give a student 4 B grade gcses A distinction can give a student 4 A grade gcses A distinction* can give a student 4 A* grade gcses Not every school will have the btec course so choose wisely. A BTEC doesn't consist of exams!

Is engineering a btec or a gcse?

In my school it's a BTEC. If it doesn't say BTEC before it, it will probably be GCSE in your school. But if it's BTEC, you will get 2 GCSE's instead of 1.
