The English Channel was in the way. Blitzkrieg depends on rapid land advancement, which is difficult to do over a large body of water. The German army had to wait for 2 things: good weather to send the troops over and skies cleared of RAF bombers/fighters that would sink any approaching landing craft. There were plans to invade the UK - Operation Sea Lion. The success of this operation depended on the Luftwaffe destroying the RAF. The Battle of Britain pretty much destroyed any chance of it occuring.

If the German's had won the Battle of Britain, then the invasion would have had a clear go ahead. But the RAF triumphed and Hitler postphoned the invasion.

Because Blitzkrieg didn't actually exist and because he didn't get ashore in Britain.

Blitzkrieg was (supposedly) a method of land warfare: it required that the attacker and defender actually meet on the battlefield - Britain itself was never a battlefield for land warfare in WWII.

Because, Britain was prepared for Germany's attack and to get to Britain, Hitler had to cross the English channel. He couldn't used the Blitzkrieg tactic onto Britain without them noticing.

What does 'Bliztkrieg' mean in English?

blitzkrieg means, literally, lightning war. blitz = lightning krieg = war. It's German and is most often used to refer to the tactic used by Hitler's forces in WWII. The tactic entailed a swift and powerful attack on unsuspecting, weaker forces. A key component of this was Hitler's tank regiments. They were faster and more powerful than the French cavalry, making short work of the Ardennes Forest and enabling Hitler to conquer France in approximately 5 weeks.
