Probably because people wanted more flexibility from their printers. Daisy-wheel printers are limited to the character set on the wheel. If you want a different font, you need to physically change the wheel for a different one.
Dot matrix printers cured that by using tiny pins striking through an ink ribbon. However - their downfall was that they could only print in one colour (again unless you changed the ribbon).
Inkjet printers have multi-colour cartridges - enabling them to combine red, yellow, blue and black ink into millions of different colours.
Dot Matrix printers are the most common impact printers used with personal computers. Daisy Wheel printers are sometimes used as well.
A dot-matrix or a daisy wheel printer is used to print on multi-part forms and listing paper. Such printers are known as impart printers.
I'm not sure that impact printers could reasonably be described as "commonly used" today; nearly all printers still in use are either ink-jet or some form of xerographic process (i.e. "laser printers"). To the extent they are... dot-matrix and daisy wheel are probably the two I'd pick; computer centers probably still use line printers, but those are basically just a different kind of dot-matrix printer. Another possibility is the chain printer, which had a rapidly moving chain of typefaces behind an ink ribbon and in front of rapidly firing hammers.

Yes printers used many tools that we do not use today like stamps of flowers.
RFID printers are used to print documents consisting of black and white ink. These printers are not common in households but can be used if one wants to.
Currently the two most popular types of printers are inkjet and laser printers. Inkjet printers are generally used in the home, and are preferred for their lower initial purchase cost. Laser printers are more expensive up front but are inevitably cheaper for heavy users on a per-page basis. They are also preferred for their high speed. Aside from that. In olden days we used to use Dot-matrix, Daisy-wheel and other impact printers. Dot-matrix printers are still very popular for places where it is useful to be able to print on special multi-layered paper, as dot-matrix presses hard enough to press through. Many smaller printers such as receipt and ATM printers use thermal printers. The paper is specially treated to change color in reaction to heat. The printer just heats up the parts it wants to print on & you have your receipt.... unless you leave it on a hot dashboard! Some faxes and photocopiers also use this technology, but it is not preferred as the glossy paper is difficult to write on.
Most sold printers will be compatible with Windows 7 as of 2016. It's up to the manufacurer of the printer to create the drivers used for that operating system. Most printers and PC's today use the standard network and or USB connection.
The old laser printers used He-Ne laser , and the modern laser printers use infrared laser .
